Act

"When every creature is gone the world will not be worth living in"

We desperately need to live in such a way that our presence on the earth leaves a lighter impression.

Every moment of life is precious. So too is every blade of grass, every flower, every foal, every butterfly, every bear, every salmon, every frog, every owl, every tiger, every worm, every penguin, every bee, every coral, every seahorse, every squirrel, every dolphin, every snail, every deer, every rhino.  What will it take for each one of us to to take time, effort and great responsibility to keep the earth clean from our waste, plastic, littering and spoiling? And to share the planet surface to leave unspoilt habitats and enough space for wildlife?

WHAT CAN WE DO?

EarthShare helps people connect from the heart from which the motivation to share stems. We research ways we each can act and what we can do for the benefit of Wildlife and all Nature. Then we work to inspire and educate, especially young people, sparking ideas, encouraging initiatives and giving pointers with examples where needed. We use Nature Walks, Wildlife Encounters, Outdoor Adventures and other Real Life Experiences to open eyes, hone listening and awaken the spirit of responsibility, respect and sharing. Finally we do the very best in our own lives, because this is our passion and even though the problems are huge each of us can chip away to the best of our ability.

The Way We Live Our LiVes Needs to Change!

SAY NO TO PLASTIC BAGS

Instead bring your own!

A cloth one is good as it is lightweight, can be washed and lasts a long time.

BOTTLE YOUR OWN WATER

Buy your own non-plastic water containers, choose your design, remember to take it with you!

REQUEST PLASTIC-FREE PACKAGING

Choose loose veg, buy from bulk food outlets, refuse polystyrene packed take-aways, use your own containers where possible.

SKIP PLASTIC STRAWS

Refuse taking one in a take-away, festival, bar or cafe. Instead do without or bring your own!

AVOID PLASTIC CUTLERY

Do not pick it up! Instead bring your own washable re-usable set when out and about.

PICK UP LITTER

Think of a personalised motto which will motivate you for the sake of wildlife such as:

"If I don't pick this up it could end up fed to an Albatross"

"If I don't pick this up it could drown a Bumble Bee"

"If I don't pick this up it could strangle a Seal."

Carry a spare bag with you to put the litter in. Recycle what you can.

Dispose of the rest responsibly.

Remember that the small pieces can also be lethal. Pick up at least 5 pieces a day.

Join a Litter Pick! (also a good way to meet like-minded people and enjoy working together).

Teach children by example, explain why.

The short time it takes you to collect some litter could save untold suffering and is helping to keep our earth, land, sea, mountains beautiful!

DON'T BE TEMPTED TO DROP LITTER!

When people drop litter they are clearly not thinking as to what will become of it. The mentality can only be one of:

  • 'out of sight, out of mind'

  • 'someone else can clear up after me'

  • or 'the earth is my rubbish bin'

And yet that litter frequently does untold harm, either mistaken as food or being tangling / trapping wildlife, such as:

  • the empty can attracts insects who are attracted by the smell of whatever was in it. They slither in and drown in the dregs of the drink and more follow

  • an empty crisp packet fills up with rainwater. Then a bumble bee flies into it or beetles crawl into it, attracted by the smell, gets trapped and drowns

  • cigarette ends are toxic to wildlife especially if they end up in water.

MAKE WINDOWS VISIBLE TO BIRDS

Use stickers or hangings to make windows visible to birds.

Try not to park too close to the building as this can make the hazard less visible and harder for a fast flying bird  calculate for.

Pay especial attention to any windows which have claimed casualties or lives.

DRIVE WITH VIGILANCE

Drive alert to the risk of wildlife, even more so at dusk and dawn.

Brake and slow down to avoid collision if it is safe to do so.

Holding a steady speed slow speed also can allow a bird or animal to gauge better how

to avoid you.

Notice if it is just one bird/animal or if there are more. Allow a whole group to cross the road if your slowing is not going to cause an accident.
